Former
Riding Master of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment; Choreographer to the
world famous Musical Ride; television presenter, event organiser, international
Three-Day-Event competitor, Chef d’Equipe to British equestrian teams;
leadership and motivational speaker, and experienced team leader. Just a few of
the skills in Richard Waygood's CV, built on thirty years of unique military and
equestrian experience.
Richard Waygood joined the Army as a private soldier in 1979. He was
commissioned from the Ranks in 2000 and retired a Major in 2009, having held the
high profile and prestigious role of Riding Master for seven years, the second
longest appointment in the history of the Household Cavalry. In 2009, he has
been received an MBE by Her Majesty The Queen for services to equestrianism.
This impressive rise to the top has taken him from planning the Household
Cavalry Musical Ride’s appearances on a frozen lake at St Moritz, to being the
first military rider to complete Badminton Horse Trials in over twenty years;
from public speaking at awards ceremonies, to looking after British equestrian
teams competing at international championships. Richard displays a huge range of
skills developed in team motivation, forward planning, taking the initiative and
sheer hard work.
Now an Ambassador for The Brooke Hospital, equestrian advisor to the Bahrain
Ministry of Interior, Chef d’Equipe to the British CIC 2Star Event Team, and
guest lecturer at Ashridge Business School (rated Britain’s top business school
by the Financial Times), Richard has numerous projects on the go alongside his
regular coaching and public speaking commitments.
